Fiber optic cables for the DCCN follow the same conduit and poles used by our electric system. Many conduits in Sun Cove are old, broken, and unusable. When conduit or power poles are not available we have to dig in yards, cut up roads, and break driveways to install conduit. Those methods are too disruptive and expensive to justify serving some customers. Sun cove is also unique because Douglas County has a moratorium on cutting up the roads that were recently installed in Sun Cove. If the DCCN cannot use existing conduit, customers can install their own conduit system for the PUD to use to serve them. There is communication conduit available at no charge from the PUD. Our engineers are happy to consult with people that would like to install a conduit system.
